Wildlife

You have entered the heart of Tony Forrest Wildlife Art -my oils of African and Indian wildlife!  My whole life revolves around painting in oils, the incredible atmosphere of the African plains and bush, its sheer beauty and of course its wildlife.

Both India and Africa never fail to inspire me.  I can't describe how I feel when I wake up at camp to the sound of distant hyenas or lions.  It is always an unforgettable experience and it is simply not possible for me to go there without turning everything I see into an oil painting!

Spotted in the Masai Mara. SOLD.
Brand new oil as at January 2009. These cheetahs were seen on my recent visit to the Masai Mara. I knew I would be painting this scene as soon as I saw them. prints available now from Haddon Galleries, Torquay POA
Zebras and Friends SOLD
A new painting finished in February 2009. This delightful scene was what I came across on the way back from an attempt to see the wildebeest crossing the Mara River in 2007. I failed! Scenes like this often go unnoticed by tourists who are more in...
ROCK OR CROC? SOLD
The Mara River. I love teasing! Is that a rock in the foreground or a crocodile? You will have to decide for yourself! When I first saw the dark shape under the water, there was immediate tension and I've tried to carry that tension over into thi...
Giants of the Delta
One of my best elephant originals. The Okavango Delta never fails to inspire.
Kariba Thunderhead
The summer thunderheads over Lake Kariba are an amazing sight. It can be a very eery place.
Buffalo, Okavango Delta, Botswana.
A small but moody painting of this formidable animal. I've been too close to these on a couple of occassions in Mana Pools.
Kariba Sunset
Lake Kariba in North Zimbabwe is a lovely place. I've only been a couple of times but being out on the lake amongst the dead trees, many birds and hippos is a magical experience. There is huge drama too with the summer thunder clouds which develop ...
SAFETY IN NUMBERS - SOLD
Zebras in the Masai Mara
Lake Nakuru, Kenya.
This is a fascinating place for an artist. Wonderful light and colours. The hyena was hunting in a pack of three. Not a pretty sight but an interesting experience to watch! You would think the flamingos would easily fly out of the way. Most do,...
TIGER CUB. SOLD
This is the finished painting that I was demonstrating at the Marwell exhibition. It will be available as a limited edition print at the end of September 09.

Bengal Tiger SOLD
This painting seemed to take forever! The largest tiger canvas I have attempted but I am very happy with the result - an immediate sale!
Mara Cheetah SOLD
This is the first cheetah I painted after my trip to the Masai Mara in 2007. She was just lying in the grass at the edge of the road and was seen on my way back from watching the wildebeest crossing the Mara river. I love the warm colour harmony in...
Etosha Salt Pan
The vast open spaces of Etosha - a magnate for wildlife artists! I tried to mainly convey the feeling of the space and heat of this place. Original available from Call of Africa, Florida, USA.
Cool Waters
The idea was to create a graphic image with bold stripes and blue sky - or reflection of it. I've added a gentle suggestion of vegetation in the water just to give the feel of being somewhere near dry land! Original available from Call of Africa, ...
Out of the Shadows. SOLD. Print available.
This leopard was one that I tracked for a whole day in Botswana a couple of years ago. The Okavango Delta was the area, which is literally a wildlife wonderland. One of the best places to see leopards among many other species. Prints available fr...
The Masai Mara. SOLD
A huge bull seen by me in the Mara in 2007. This scene is just how it was. The power of this animal just had to be painted but I don't like showing work like this on websites as all the power and impact of the original is lost.
A Stealthy Slience SOLD
New oil of a leopard from Botswana's Okavango Delta, one of my favourite places to visit. I suppose this kind of subject is my signature painting, with the dappled light falling through the dense undergrowth. I just love playing with light like thi...
Cheetah - Masai Mara. SOLD
A small painting of one of the cheetahs I have seen in the Masai Mara.
Rwanda Silverback SOLD
Print available March 2009. This is the first of the new paintings that I have done from my visit to the mountain gorillas in the Virungas, Rwanda last year. Only a small painting, but one which holds special memories. Original available from Hun...
Young Rwanda Mountain Gorilla SOLD
Print available March 2009. Another of the gorillas from my visit last year to Rwanda. This is one of the younger animals which I was lucky enough to see extremely close. I was virtually standing right in their nest. It doesn't get any better tha...
